Six-yearly update
The Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD (Marine Strategy Framework Directive)) requires the Member States of the European Union to review and update the following every six years:
- the initial assessment of the environmental status of national marine waters;
- the description of the Good Environmental Status of national marine waters;
- the environmental targets and associated indicators for national marine waters;

calculated from the establishment period stated in the Directive.
The next update of the Marine Strategy for the Dutch Part of the North Sea, Part 1, is scheduled for 15 July 2018. The amended text of the Marine Strategy will subsequently be posted on this website and will replace the previous version so that the latest version can always be consulted.
